Starfield’s latest update is live, bringing with it the promisedimprovements to the photo modeas well as greater convenience while using the scanner and a handful of other quality of life changes. Nothing terribly remarkable in the grand schemes of things—but what is remarkable is that it also fixes a genuinely huge number of bugs and gameplay issues.

Fans have been clamoring for new Starfield content for months, and this unfortunately does not deliver on that front. Accordingly, the reception to both the update announcement and today’s launch have not been entirely positive: Bethesda promised in 2023 that Starfield would get big new features in 2024 including “survival mechanics” and “all new ways of travelling,” but so far there’s been no sign of either. There’s also still no indication as to when the Shattered Space expansion might arrive, and the promisedmodding toolsare also still MIA.

So no, it’s not a great spot for Starfield to be in, and some fans are clearly running short of patience. Others, though, seem genuinely excited for some of the changes in this update: Removing the digipick cost for using the Undo function during the Security mini-game, for instance, seems incredibly minor yet has sparked some genuine (and, I’m pretty sure, unironic) excitement onReddit.

There’s also some hope that, with this huge laundry list of fixes now in place, Bethesda can finally bring both barrels to bear on new content creation. I have no idea how the studio allocates its resources but it doesn’t seem like an entirely unreasonable expectation: How many bugs can possibly be left to fix after fixing this many bugs?

Bethesda hasn’t yet commented on that possibility, but hopefully we’ll be hearing more about it soon. In the meantime, you can check out the full patch notes below.
