We’re checking out the hidden gems of Game Pass over the next few weeks, digging up all the obscure and esoteric games secreted away in our subscription and seeing how they play.

We’re continuing our rundown of some of the obscure delights that you can find on PC Game Pass. This week, it’s time to sign up with the fourth best interstellar space exploration company and tour an alien world in Journey to the Savage Planet.

Thanks to its exotic, colourful location, Journey to the Savage Planet is a tightly curated take on a spacefaring adventure game. Rather than sprawling, procedurally generated expanses, here you’re charting ARY-26, a world full of character and purpose. In addition to its funny, fourth-wall breaking story, its Metroidvania-like design hands you all manner of tools for traversing the world—handing out scientific discoveries at a pleasing pace.

Tying it all together is the mystery at the heart of this Savage Planet—one you’ll start to uncover as you dive into new biomes and locations. In all, it’s a charming mix of survival, adventure and discovery—a nicely balanced blend of genres that has plenty of surprises to uncover as well.
